What is a family-friendly employer? Employers For Childcare Workshop explores the dos and don’ts

Family Friendly Employer Workshop

‘What is a family friendly employer?’ and other questions were the focus of Employers For Childcare’s third annual Family Friendly Employer Workshop held recently at Galgorm Resort & Spa. Over 70 delegates took part in a workshop to find out for themselves the types of policies which the 2016 Award winners implemented.

The event, sponsored by Worthingtons Solicitors, provided HR professionals from all sectors a chance to share best practice, receive advice, inspiration and practical ideas to improve employee welfare and help employees better manage their work-life balance.

Maxine Orr, Partner at Worthingtons Solicitors, spoke about how it can have a positive impact on employees’ lives, “In today’s businesses and organisations, the need to implement family friendly policies which helps workers be happier and more productive is acknowledged as a key incentive to recruitment and retaining good employees”.

Winners of the 2016 Awards shared some of the workplace initiatives they have on offer for which they were recognised at last year’s ceremony. These included Claire Sweeny, MACS NI – Charity/Social Enterprise Winner, Laura McMahon, Lagan Construction Group – Large Private Highly Commended and Samantha Whann, Belfast HSCT – Public Sector & Overall Winner.

Guest speaker Sam Davidson, HR Director at Henderson Group, concluded the Workshop by encouraging all delegates to provide a supportive and ‘family friendly’ working environment for their staff, highlighting how it not only benefits the employees but in turn benefits the employer as well.
