Parent and Toddler Groups Parent & Toddler groups provide a meeting place for parents/carers and young pre-schoolers. They are set up for parents and carers of children who are aged 0-5 years and the parent/carers stay with their children and have responsibility for them. The usual format is to offer adults a chance to talk with others about the joys and anxieties of bringing up children while children learn songs, how to share toys and how to socialise with others. However, the focus of each group varies with some concentrating on adult activities (eg parenting classes or behaviour management) while others focus on providing play opportunities for children. The groups are often run by members themselves on a voluntary basis and there is usually a small charge to cover running costs. Some groups meet only during term time and, as many do have waiting lists it is advisable to telephone the contact number given first if at all possible.
