Employers For Childcare Charitable Group welcomes yesterday’s Programme for Government (PfG) 2011 -2015.  Amongst its list of promises, a commitment to invest in building an integrated and affordable childcare strategy for parents.

Nora Smith, Policy and Information Manager with Employers For Childcare, stated:

“We are delighted that a specific commitment has been given to childcare. This is a first in our history of PfGs.  However the devil is in the detail and we have concerns about the total sum that was allocated to childcare and are seeking clarification on this.  £12million was ring fenced over a four year period, with the first allocation to be spent in 2011/12. Given the weak childcare infrastructure, we cannot afford to lose a pound of this money.”

Social Enterprises also received recognition, with a commitment to include social clauses in procurement policies. Employers For Childcare Charitable Group operates as a Social Enterprise and is very proud of the fact that it has not received any Government funding since 2008.

Marie Marin, Chief Executive Officer, comments:

“All of the services that we provide to families within the region are financed through our own money.  Recognition of the value of Social Enterprises is really positive. However we await more information in terms of how Government departments plan to deliver their key priorities and commitments.  We look forward to working with Government to deliver on its promises."
