Parent Power!! Gordon Brown confirms 'U' turn on Childcare Vouchers
Friday 4 December 2009 Today thousands of supporters of the ChildcareSOS(Save Our Savings) campaign breathed a sigh of relief when the 'U' turn on tax relief on the childcare voucher scheme was officially announced.

The growing pressure on Gordon Brown led the Government to rethink its proposals on the childcare voucher scheme. The first public confirmation of the 'U' turn came out on Thursday. Marie Marin, CEO, Employers For Childcare, stated, “We needed a clear and definitive answer from Westminster on the issue of tax relief on the childcare voucher scheme. I am delighted with the news. Thousands of parents, employers, childcare providers and politicians have united behind the campaign. We have worked very hard over the last 10 weeks to ensure that politicians were made aware of the implications of phasing out the childcare voucher scheme. I am relieved, on behalf of working parents everywhere that this decision has been reconsidered.” Nora Smith, Campaign Manager commented, “Childcare vouchers are hugely successful in making childcare more affordable for working parents. The scheme provides tax and national insurance relief on childcare costs. Today’s announcement gives parents piece of mind, safe in the knowledge that the savings are protected for working parents. The Government climb down on the proposals is welcome. We are grateful for the confirmation. The campaign is a fine demonstration of our ability to influence change at the highest level.” Marie Marin concluded by commenting, “We will continue to highlight the importance of Government support for working parents. We recognise that given the economic climate, future financial cutbacks are inevitable. It’s important that potential cuts are not made at the expense of hard working families who actively contribute to our economy." << Go BACK
