Campaign of the Year!
Tuesday 1 December 2009 The ChildcareSOS (Save our Savings) campaign, spearheaded by Employers For Childcare to save the childcare voucher scheme, has won Campaign of the year 2009 at the annual Slugger O’Toole Awards.
MLA of the Year, Dawn Purvis (PUP) presented the award to Marie Marin, Chief Executive Officer with Employers For Childcare at a celebratory function held in The Black Box.
The ChildcareSOS (Save our Savings) campaign was launched by
Employers For Childcare on 30 September in direct reaction to Gordon Brown’s announcement on 29 September, to phase out the tax relief on Childcare Vouchers, directly affecting 340,000 working parents currently benefiting from the scheme.
The intensive campaign, which received national coverage, has led The Labour Party Government to now reconsider its proposals. The success of and the momentum of the ChildcareSOS campaign led to it being voted for by NI Assembly MLAs as the Campaign of the Year!
Marie Marin, CEO of Employers For Childcare whose aim is to make it easier for parents with dependent children to get into work, and to stay in work said; “I am absolutely delighted to have been recognised by our local politicians as the Campaign of the Year for 2009. The award comes on the back of the successful outcome of a debate in the Northern Ireland Assembly; Employers For Childcare received cross party support for the campaign to oppose Gordon Brown’s decision to phase out childcare vouchers”.
